Start Your Year Off Right

1.       Learn Something
Keep your brain on its toes – learn a new language, learn to knit, take a painting or pottery class, or a cooking class. Do you admire those multi-talented folks you know? Be one!

2.      Be Your Own Cheerleader
Be as encouraging to yourself as you are to others! Negative self talk is your number one enemy. You wouldn’t speak to your child like that, and you shouldn’t speak to yourself like that. Stop saying, “oh, you always do this,” and start saying, “tomorrow’s another chance. I’ll get it right this time.”

3.      Waste Less Time
How often do we say we’re strapped for time – when we spend hours on the computer check, checking, and re-checking email and Facebook! Not to mention watching TV. Turn off the electronics and make yourself a list of goals. Use some time every day to work on your list, and pick up a good book, too. (Get a book about calligraphy or winemaking and accomplish number 1 at the same time!)

4.      Live Now, Not “When I…”
There’s literally no time like the present. Take your list of goals and get on it! Post your list where you’ll see it every day – on the bathroom mirror or on the front of the fridge. Got a huge goal? Break it down and figure out the first step – then step out! Don’t sit around waiting for someday – make things happen.

5.      Get Organized
Need we say more? I know I need to do it. In 15 minutes a day, I bet I can tackle a closet every 2 days.

6.      A Friend Indeed
Know someone who needs some help? A phone call, handwritten note, email or (my fave!) homemade pie will let someone know you care. It only takes a few minutes to say hello, and it means a lot. Need a friend yourself? Call a trusted friend to talk – you’ll feel better!
