What's The Big Idea??

There’s one thing we look forward to every year…it’s a little like Christmas, a little like your birthday + a little like Disney. It’s so much work you could faint, and so much fun you could squeal.

What is it??

It’s the New York Stationery Show! It’s where we show off + see friends + make new ones.
This year we’ve got a little something special planned for our retailers. It’s Fontaine Maury’s Big Idea Lab!

Make a bee-line to our booth (#2806-2810) at the show and get The Big Idea!

The Big Idea Lab will be packed with specimens for you to peruse and new ideas to use. Sign up for our Learning Labs (no white coat required) because they’re chock full of everything YOU want to know about.

Need some help with merchandising? There’s a Lab for that. Wanna beef up your branding? There’s a Lab for that. Windows need some work? Yep, there’s a Lab for that.

In preparation for the Big Show, we’re connecting us to you and you to each other with the Big Idea Lab online. We’ve sent out invites, but if you’re not already a member (retailers only!), email us at to sign up! We want to know what you think - what’s the best hotel for the show? Fave restaurant? And, most importantly, what Lab classes are you itching to take?

Double Down on the Antioxidants, I Say!

Did you need another excuse to eat chocolate? Here it is - antioxidants. Yup, they're in there! Don't ask me where, but they are.

Are they in this next recipe? Somewhere....Oh! But there's a strawberry in it, too! Double down on the antioxidants, I say!

For more uber-fashionable ideas, check out the Blue Orchid Blog - they're wedding planners in Arizona and they've got heaps of hip ideas! Find 'em here.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries

You'll need:
* 6 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
* 3 ounces white chocolate, chopped
* 1 pound strawberries with stems (about 20), washed and dried very well

Put the semisweet and white chocolates into two separate heatproof medium bowls. Fill two medium saucepans with a couple inches of water and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Turn off the heat; set the bowls of chocolate over the water to melt. Stir until smooth. (Alternatively, melt the chocolates in a microwave at half power, for 1 minute, stir and then heat for another minute or until melted.)

Once the chocolates are melted and smooth, remove from the heat. Line a sheet pan with parchment or waxed paper. Holding the strawberry by the stem, dip the fruit into the dark chocolate, lift and twist slightly, letting any excess chocolate fall back into the bowl. Set strawberries on the parchment paper. Repeat with the rest of the strawberries. Dip a fork in the white chocolate and drizzle the white chocolate over the dipped strawberries.

Set the strawberries aside until the chocolate sets, about 30 minutes.

More Fun Than a Barrel of Valentines?

What nips at the heels of Valentine's like a caffeinated chihuahua? Mardi Gras!! Whip up some jambalaya and break out the bread pudding - and don't dare forget the king cake!

What's got me thinking Mardi Gras? Well, we're having a party, for one. (No, no beads!) And for two, one of our fave New Orleans retailers, Scriptura, has been featured on The! The Nest lists 6 great finds inspired by N. O. and they they mention Scriptura right here! And here's our post about them earlier this year.

Mmmmm... Molten Chocolate Cakes

Doesn't it just sound nummy? Molten. Chocolate. Cake.

No excuse needed, whip these up at will. Didn't you know? Every time someone says "I'm on a diet" a fairy dies!

So save some fairies, and your sanity, and if you're feeling dangerous, add a scoop of ice cream!

Dark Molten Chocolate Cakes
6 ounces BAKER'S Dark Bittersweet
Chocolate Baking Bars
10 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup flour
3 whole eggs
3 egg yolks

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Grease 6 (6-oz.) custard cups or souffle dishes. Place on baking sheet.
2. Microwave chocolate and butter in large microwaveable bowl on MEDIUM (50%) for 2 min. or until butter is melted. Stir with wire whisk until chocolate is completely melted. Add powdered sugar and flour; mix well. Add whole eggs and egg yolks; beat until well blended. Divide batter evenly into prepared custard cups.
3. Bake 14 to 15 min. or until cakes are firm around the edges but soft in the centers. Let stand 1 min. Run small knife around cakes to loosen. Carefully invert cakes onto dessert dishes. Sprinkle lightly with additional powdered sugar and garnish with raspberries, if desired. Serve immediately.

What a Girl Wants for Valentine's

1. I'd like a 3 carat cushion cut diamond with smaller diamonds on either side of the band.
2. If that's not available, then a gold Rolex with diamonds surrounding the Mother-of-Pearl face will be a good sub.
3. Truthfully, I'd give up both to have a swimming pool in my back yard....this would be a good time of
year to start so it would be ready by Spring.

The reality is I will get a bouquet from Publix, if they have any left by the time my husband gets there.

Otis, you've been warned!

By the way, I got this sparkly pic from a neat website that lets you build fashion looks. Remember those Barbie fashion plates where you mix and match skirts and tops, and then rub crayon over paper to make pictures of your ensembles? It's kinda like that but digital and addictive. It's called Polyvore, and it lets you collect images from any online store and make collages.
Now tell me you couldn't spend hours at work doing that!

Valentine's Day is almost upon us and of COURSE we have some sweet picks for your sweetheart!

Scenario 1: candlelight, wine, chocolate covered raspberries, all arranged on a monogrammed tray.

Scenario 2: A monogrammed tray heavy with bath salts, essential oils and some good ol' chick lit.

Of course, Scenario 2 could follow Scenario 1, and make Scenario 3 - and one happy Valentine!
